Alright, so I must say that I'm not too impressed with my Swim Class for Arianna. I love that her friends are in the class with her, but I'm really not fond of the teacher. I thought it was going to be different. I know there just supposed to be playing in the water and getting used to it, which we are doing, but I thought we would have organized "games" not just here you can try this if your comfortable. I thought the teacher would work with each mom and child and show them what to do, and it would be a little more hands on. For example, in our first class the instructor said we could put them under water if we wanted to, it was our discretion, and somewhat told us what to do. Well the first few times I did it that day Arianna did it, and did not choke like I stated before. The next class was pretty much the same as the first, except we had the girls floating. As we were leaving the class I decided I would try dunking Arianna under water, and immediately she choked, and wasn't breathing and her little body was flopping around for about 8-10 seconds, and after that she coughed and brought up a little water. My heart instantely droppeed I didn't know what to do, and I was just in complete shock. So, with all that said my real problems are these: I didn't dunk her exactly right because we didn't really learn properly how to dunk them (as my friend kristy said, her last instructor did a one on one thing with them and showed each parent EXACTLY how to do this, not just say how and walk away type thing)and second as I was panicking no one helped or offered any assistance, I did after a few seconds say to my friends, um...help I...I...and then she choked up the water, but they were both facing the other way, what they couldn't see and I'm sure the lifeguards or anyone else there could have seen was me panicking with her and freaking out and NO ONE that worked there even attempted to walk over or offer assistance. I know maybe to them it wasn't a big deal but it scared me, and I didn't know what to do.
Now, I'm not going to stop these lessons or trying to put Arianna under, because I don't want her to be afraid of the water and I like the fact that she's in there at such a young age. I will however make sure to ask the instructor next time to PROPERLY show me how to dunk her and get it right.
I must go now, I just needed to vent, and Arianna is up from her little 20 minute nap.
